About The Programme
The Girls Empowered Together (GET) Programme - made possible through funding from the Irish Youth Foundation’s Coca-Cola Thank You Fund - worked with young women in North Belfast who were disengaged from mainstream services or support. The programme created a safe, inclusive space where participants could explore the issues affecting their lives, while building confidence, identity, belonging, and positive relationships. At its core, GET supported young women to feel heard, valued, and empowered.
Throughout the programme, young women took part in a series of workshops and experiences shaped around the realities they face growing up in North Belfast. These included racial inclusion and awareness sessions with guest speakers, health and fitness activities delivered alongside a personal trainer, nutrition and wellbeing workshops, creative craft sessions such as wreath making, and food-based workshops that celebrated different cultures and traditions.
GET was developed as an inclusion-focused programme, bringing together young women from different backgrounds, faiths, and cultures - including Muslim and migrant communities - to recognise their differences while also celebrating the many similarities they share. By creating space for conversation, shared learning, and connection, the programme helped participants develop confidence, cultural awareness, and a stronger sense of identity and belonging.
